Medical Mission Trips for Nurses
Use your nursing skills to serve patients with a short-term Christian team.
Bring your skills. Bring your heart.
Your nursing skills can bring care to someone who has little or no access to healthcare. On a WMA medical team, you'll help patients through triage, check vital signs, and assist with procedures and medication distribution. You'll also explain their care and follow-up instructions, bringing your knowledge and a compassionate presence to each person you meet.
You'll serve alongside other Christian medical professionals, with opportunities to pray with patients and families. Whether you're helping in the clinic or talking someone through their care, there's a place for both your training and your heart for people.

Common nurse questions
Do I need experience abroad?
No. You don't need previous experience abroad to join a WMA medical mission trip.
What about my license?
Students are welcome and can receive a signed record of their volunteer hours. Clinical roles depend on your qualifications: WMA's protocol lists RN/LPN/LVN nurses as “Licensed and/or Retired,” and requires nurse practitioners to be certified and licensed. Tell WMA your training and license status so you can confirm your role before joining. Your school decides whether to accept volunteer hours.
Can I bring a friend or spouse who isn't medical?
Yes. WMA welcomes non-medical volunteers as well as medical professionals. Your friend or spouse can help with registration, clinic setup, children's ministry or the prayer team. Applications are accepted only from US and Canadian citizens.
How much does it cost and what's included?
Most medical trips cost $2,099; Mexico costs $1,799. Lodging, three meals a day, ground transportation, itinerary planning and translator services are included. Airfare, any in-country flights and visa fees, insurance and personal expenses are extra. Confirm your trip's price with WMA before making plans.
Is fundraising help available?
Yes. WMA provides editable support-letter templates and trip-specific fundraising resources. With an approved application and a $200 deposit, you can create a fundraising page for your trip.
