FACTS

  • The capital city is Quito, one of the highest capital cities in the world, sitting at over 9,000 feet above sea level. Latacunga is a high-altitude Andean city (approx. 2,850m/9,055ft) in central Ecuador, serving as the capital of Cotopaxi Province
  • Population: Approximately 18 million people (2024 estimate). Spanish is the official language, with indigenous languages such as Kichwa and Shuar also widely spoken among native communities.
  • Religion: Christianity is the dominant religion. Around 74% of Ecuadorians identify as Roman Catholic, while Protestant/Evangelical communities have been steadily growing and now make up roughly 15–20% of the population. A smaller percentage identify as non-religious or practice indigenous spiritual traditions.
  • Ecuador’s constitution guarantees freedom of religion, and there is a visible mix of traditional Catholic influence alongside increasing evangelical presence, especially in rural and indigenous areas.
  • Despite its natural beauty and cultural richness, Ecuador faces ongoing challenges with poverty, unemployment, and limited access to healthcare and education—especially in rural and indigenous communities.

WHY WE GO

  • Only 15% of Ecuadorians are evangelical Christians and know about a personal relationship with Christ
  • Rural communities have limited to no access to church leadership and theological training. Geographic isolation, language diversity (including Kichwa and other indigenous languages), and economic challenges make it hard for local Christians to continue ministry in those areas
  • Ecuador has experienced economic challenges in recent years, including slow growth, unemployment, and poor quality and difficult access to healthcare.
  • There are ongoing opportunities to partner with local churches and ministries that are already serving their communities. Supporting and encouraging local leaders, investing in discipleship, and working alongside existing efforts can help strengthen long-term, sustainable ministry.

November 3–13, 2027, World Missions Alliance has been invited to bring the Gospel to Latacunga and surrounding communities—and we believe this is a Holy Spirit-inspired appointment.

Ecuador is a nation where only about 15% of the population has heard the true message of the Gospel. Many are familiar with religious tradition, follow ancestral beliefs, or have never come to know God personally. Yet, there is a growing hunger for truth, and local churches are asking for help to reach their communities.

In Latacunga, nestled in the Andean highlands, people live surrounded by natural beauty, yet many have never had and encounter with or heard about a relationship with Christ.
During this mission, we will partner with Morningstar Church in Latacunga and their new church plants in Tilipulo and other areas to:

  • Share the Gospel in underserved communities
  • Strengthen and support new church plants in Tilipulo
  • Help plant additional churches where there is no Gospel presence
  • Provide medical care in areas facing a severe healthcare crisis
  • Bring practical help to families experiencing food shortages

Our medical teams are especially needed, as access to healthcare in these regions is extremely limited. People sometimes wait over 3 months to see a doctor. Time and again, these outreaches become a powerful expression of God’s love—opening hearts to receive not only healing for the body, but hope for the soul.

One of the most remarkable opportunities on this trip is the open door to share the Gospel in public schools. This is a rare privilege—one that allows us to reach children and, through them, entire families. It is an opportunity we do not have in our own country, and we approach it with both gratitude and great expectation.

This mission is not only about what God will do through you—but also what He will do in you. As you step out in faith, you will experience a deeper understanding of His heart for the nations and your role in the Great Commission. You will take part in the spiritual destiny of Ecuador, but also experience the stunning natural beauty of the Andes mountains and the Cotopaxi volcano, taste the unique cuisine Latacunga is famous for and form relationships with the local Christians.

We invite you to prayerfully consider being part of this mission. Whether your gifts are in evangelism, intercession, medical service, or simply a willing heart to serve, God can use you to make an eternal impact.
