FACTS

  • Thailand is a Southeast Asian country known for its rich cultural heritage, tropical landscapes, and history as both a kingdom and modern constitutional monarchy.
  • Population: Around 66–70 million people as of 2025. Thai is the official language, and the literacy rate is high at about 93–95%.
  • Religion: Thailand is predominantly Buddhist, with about 93–95% practicing Theravada Buddhism. Muslims make up roughly 4–5%, Christians about 1–1.4%, and other or no religion making up the remainder.
  • Christianity was introduced centuries ago, but despite long missionary history, Christians remain a very small minority, with many churches being small in size (30–50 members) and thousands of districts having no church presence.
  • Most Christians in Thailand are found among ethnic minority and tribal groups, while ethnic Thai believers are a smaller proportion of the Church overall.
  • Religion and Society: Buddhism is deeply integrated into daily life and culture, with religious identity often tied to traditional beliefs, merit‑making practices, and community life. Thailand legally protects freedom of religion, though religious minorities remain numerically small.

WHY WE GO

Thailand remains one of the most unreached nations in the world. Despite centuries of missionary work, only about 1–1.4% of the population identifies as Christian, and many communities still have no local church or Christian witness at all.

Buddhism deeply shapes Thai culture and everyday life and is often blended with animist beliefs. Because of this, sharing the gospel usually happens slowly and through long-term, trust-based relationships rather than quick or public responses.

Thailand is also home to refugees and migrant communities from countries like Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia—many of whom have experienced conflict, displacement, or persecution—creating real opportunities to serve both physical and spiritual needs.

There is a deep need for prayer—for spiritual awakening across Thai society, for strong local church leadership, and for wisdom and cultural sensitivity as lasting relationships open doors for the gospel.

In January 2027 we will return to Northern Thailand—the beautiful mountainous region known as the Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet. This area, once infamous for drug trafficking and poverty, is now seeing a new kind of transformation—the Gospel is taking root, and you can help it spread.

During this trip you will serve the Hill Tribes—ethnic minorities who’ve fled war and hardship, and who often lack legal rights, education, or access to medical care. From our base in Chiang Rai, you’ll travel into the mountains to bring healing and the hope of Jesus through evangelism, medical outreach, food and clothing distribution, children’s ministry, and more.

WMA is partnering with churches on the border of Myanmar. These churches conduct outreaches across the border and will be transporting groups of people from Myanmar to our evangelistic outreaches.

We still have spots open on this team and are looking for people with gifts in:

  • Medical professions (Doctors, PAs, Nurses, etc.)
  • Mentorship for the youth
  • Children’s ministry
  • Women’s, Men’s ministry
  • Ministry to prisoners or people with addictions
  • Intercession, preaching, teaching, evangelism, counseling
  • Or simply a heart to love and serve the hurting.

Whether you’re a seasoned missionary or stepping out for the first time, this is your moment to make an eternal impact.

You will have an opportunity to explore the beautiful sights, learn about the local culture and sample the authentic cuisine on the sightseeing day.

With earthquakes and floods affecting various parts of Thailand in recent years, this is your chance to bring hope to the people of Thailand.
