FACTS

  • Greece is a country in southeastern Europe with a rich history as the birthplace of Western civilization, ancient democracy, philosophy, and the Olympic Games.
  • Greece became an independent nation in 1830 after liberation from Ottoman rule and is now a parliamentary republic and member of the European Union.
  • Geography: Greece covers about 131,957 square kilometers, featuring a mountainous mainland and numerous islands in the Aegean and Ionian Seas.
  • Population: The total population is around 10.5 million people.
  • Ethnicity & Language: Most residents identify as Greek, and Greek is the official language, spoken by the vast majority.
  • Religion: Christianity is the dominant faith. Estimates from recent demographic surveys indicate that 81–90% of the population identifies with the Greek Orthodox Church, with smaller percentages identifying as Muslims, other Christian denominations, or unaffiliated.
  • Greece’s constitution recognizes Eastern Orthodoxy as the “prevailing religion”, though freedom of religious belief is guaranteed.
  • Capital: Athens is the capital city and cultural center of Greece.

WHY WE GO

Greece is rich in Christian history, yet many people have never experienced a personal relationship with Christ. While Orthodoxy shapes the culture, active discipleship is fading—especially among younger generations.

At the same time, economic pressure, an aging population, and the loss of young people to emigration have left many families and communities searching for hope. Greece has also become a refuge for people from other nations, creating complex humanitarian needs.

Local churches are serving faithfully to spread the Gospel, but they need prayer, partnership, and encouragement. We pray for spiritual renewal, unity among believers, and open hearts across Greece to encounter the life-changing hope of the gospel.

This mission combines learning, serving and sharing the Gospel in a way that will deepen your knowledge of the Word as you fulfill the Great Commission.

Follow Paul’s Footsteps – From Athens to Corinth to Cenchreae

  • Athens – Stand atop Mars Hill (Areopagus), where Paul declared to the philosophers of his day: “The God who made the world and everything in it…” (Acts 17). You’ll see the Agora, the ancient marketplace where Paul reasoned daily with anyone who would listen.  In these places, as you listen to an experienced Christian guide, the Book of Acts becomes more than history—it becomes your reality.
  • Corinth – Visit the ruins of this once-thriving Roman city, where Paul planted one of the most complex churches of the New Testament. You’ll walk through the Bema seat, where Paul was brought before the Roman authorities (Acts 18), and imagine the boldness it took to preach the Gospel here. The struggles of the Corinthian church will take on new depth as you read Paul’s letters with fresh eyes and a stirred heart. One of the most remarkable discoveries in Corinth is the Stone of Erastus—an inscription bearing the name of a city official that matches the Erastus Paul mentions in Romans 16:23: “Erastus, who is the city’s director of public works, and our brother Quartus, send you their greetings.” This stone confirms the historical accuracy of Scripture, connecting Paul’s network of believers with the very streets you will walk. It’s a tangible reminder that the Church grew not in myth, but in real time and place—through real people just like us.
  • Cenchreae – This peaceful port city, mentioned in Romans 16, was home to Phoebe, the deacon who carried Paul’s letter to the Romans. As you stand by the ancient harbor, you’ll reflect on the unsung heroes of the Gospel—like Phoebe—who carried the message forward. Just like you will.

These sacred sites not only give you a deeper understanding of Scripture, but also reawaken your own calling as a disciple and witness.

Serve Christ in the Faces of Today’s Hurting

But this trip is not only about where Paul walked. It’s about carrying Paul’s mission forward.

You’ll partner with Greek churches and ministries to:

  • Serve refugees from Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Africa—families torn by war, living in camps and centers with little hope. You’ll distribute Bibles, food, pray with them, and share the message of peace in Jesus.
  • Minister in nursing homes to elderly Greeks abandoned by family or society. Many haven’t had visitors in years. You’ll bring gifts, joy, and dignity—and perhaps offer the first Gospel message they’ve heard.
  • Host children’s and women’s outreaches, helping those most vulnerable in marginalized communities like the Roma (Gypsy) neighborhoods

A Trip That Transforms You Too

Every person who has traveled to Greece with WMA comes home changed.

You’ll not only impact others—you’ll be impacted by the power of walking through Scripture where it was first lived, the joy of sharing Christ with people desperate for hope, the beauty of Christian community, worshiping and praying as a team.

Our goal is that by the end, you’ll feel what Paul felt when he wrote: “Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel!” (1 Corinthians 9:16)

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING…
