FACTS

  • Egypt is a transcontinental country located mainly in North Africa, with the Sinai Peninsula in Asia. The Nile River valley and delta form the core of its population and agricultural regions.
  • Population: Egypt’s population is estimated at about 118 million people in 2025. Around 43% live in urban areas and roughly one-third are under the age of 15. Official language is Arabic, with many local dialects and some minority language use. Life expectancy is around 70 years and literacy is near 75%.
  • Religion: Egypt is predominantly Muslim, with approximately 85–90% of the population identifying as Sunni Muslim. Estimates of the Christian population vary; many sources place it near 10%, with the vast majority belonging to the Coptic Orthodox Church, and smaller numbers in Coptic Catholic and various Protestant or Evangelical communities. Some estimates range lower or higher due to sensitivities in data collection.
  • Egypt has the largest Christian community in the Middle East and North Africa, though Christians remain a minority in the overall population.
  • Capital: Cairo, one of Africa’s and the Arab world’s largest cities, is the political and cultural center.
  • Egypt’s history spans millennia, from ancient Pharaonic civilization through influence by Greek, Roman, Islamic, Ottoman, and modern republican eras, contributing to its rich cultural heritage.

WHY WE GO

Egypt is a land with deep spiritual roots and an even deeper spiritual destiny. While it is shaped today by a predominantly Muslim culture, Scripture reminds us that Egypt has always been part of God’s redemptive story. In Isaiah 19, God speaks of a future where Egypt knows the Lord, worships Him, and is called “My people.”

Christians in Egypt live within unique social and cultural pressures. Many face limitations, making everyday expressions of faith and community life challenging. Prayer and encouragement are deeply needed for protection, perseverance, and freedom.

Egypt’s large youth population is searching for purpose in a time when faith is often cultural or nominal. This creates an opportunity for discipleship and gospel engagement that speaks to real life, real questions, and real hope.

Many families, and especially refugees from war-torn nations, also face poverty, limited access to education, and employment challenges—opening the door for ministry that brings both practical care and spiritual encouragement.

We pray for peace, unity among believers, and spiritual renewal across Egypt, believing God’s promise that this land will one day walk fully in His purposes. As Isaiah foretold, Egypt’s story is not finished—and God is still at work, drawing hearts to Himself.

On this mission, you will travel to an ancient land of Biblical history and prophecies. You will have the opportunity to share the Gospel in Cairo, Egypt at a very important time in its history. In recent years, Egypt, the most populous country in the Middle East, has become an important player in Middle Eastern politics. Egypt was able to subdue the uprising of the Muslim Brotherhood and established a government that brought stability and even some economic prosperity. But the war between Russia and Ukraine, as well as the war in Israel has impacted Egypt politically and economically.
Our team’s mission is to take the message of hope and deliverance to the Egyptian people. You will partner with several local churches to bring encouragement and strengthen the body of Christ. This will be done through women’s and men’s meetings, youth ministry and evangelistic services. The church will also host free medical clinics that attract many non-believers. Medical clinics provide rich opportunities to be the “hands and hearts of Christ” for both medical professionals and non-medical volunteers who will pray, counsel, mentor and build relationships with the patients open to the conversation.

One of the very special parts of the ministry is the visit to the local orphanages where you can share your love and your testimony with the kids and the staff.

WMA has been working in Egypt since 2008. Our vision for Egypt was inspired by the final verses of the prophecy in the Book of Isaiah 19:.

In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will go to Egypt and the Egyptians to Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together. In that day Israel will be the third, along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing on the earth. The Lord Almighty will bless them, saying, “Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance.”

The current situation in Egypt from the political and the economic perspective does not appear to confirm that the fulfillment of this prophecy is near, yet in the spiritual realm there is a great change happening in this nation!

WMA team will be interceding for the restoration of Egypt from the spiritual oppression, strife, and wars and for its spiritual destiny as the children of the true God. In addition to medical professionals, teachers, counselors and evangelists, we need prayer warriors and intercessors on the team who will devote themselves to this extremely important part of the mission. You will spend the last day touring Cairo’s Museum of Ancient History, the Pyramids of Giza, Mount Mokkatam, the banks of the Nile River as well as have some time for souvenir shopping.
